How often do you hear “you are enough”? How does that make you feel? Especially over the last two years when so much has been expected of you that you likely were not prepared for? We have experienced unprecedented times – working from home instead of in office, changing jobs all together, helping our children transition to virtual learning (often while also making the transition to virtual working), not being able to travel, or even socialize as much. So much is asked of us every single day.
Guess what? It is okay to sometimes not be enough. No matter how strong you are, there will be times when you just don’t feel like you are ‘enough’ – and that is okay. The truth is we all have a breaking point. It is so important to take time to refill your cup, to refuel. And it is important to recognize those moments.
Unfortunately, we are often our own worst enemy when it comes to thinking we are enough. Personally, I feel that I am better at telling others they are rock stars than believing I am. Yes, I experience imposter syndrome as much as the next person. But whenever I catch myself thinking that I am not where I should be, I take a moment to reflect. I think about all that I do on a daily basis and all that I have achieved throughout my life. And then I think about why I’m feeling like I’m not enough, usually it is because I have piled too much on my plate. This is when I recognize that I need to step back and either ask for help or start telling people no, not right now. I need to refill my cup first in order to make more space.
It is okay to sometimes not be enough – stop, rest, rejuvenate. Make space in your life by learning to say no and by practicing self-care. More on those two topics later. Thank you for visiting and I look forward to hearing your own experiences on this topic!
